French Toast Recipe

Use what you have typa recipe

I’ve made French Toast a couple of times, and this is the best I’ve ever had. More than like its due to the bread I used, my sourdough croissant loaf.

This is one of those “use what you have” kind of recipes—with just a little extra flair (because we’re not about bland French toast in this house).

It’s cozy, custardy, sweet-but-not-too-sweet, and topped with clouds of honey whipped cream. I used almond milk and dairy-free cream—because that’s what I will always use for my weak lactose intolerable self. Use what you love and make it yours. French toast is forgiving. She just wants to be golden, warm, and delicious.

Ingredients

  • French Toast Batter

    • 1/2 cup milk (I used almond milk)
    • 2 eggs (yes, it’s worth it—1 egg did not cut it)
    • Pinch of salt (or about 1/2 tsp)
    • 1/2 tsp vanilla paste or extract
    • Dash of cinnamon love

    Bread

    Toppings (Your Choice!)

    • Fresh berries (my fav!)
    • Chopped nuts
    • Chocolate shavings
    • Maple syrup, jam, or whatever makes your heart happy

    Whipped Cream

    • 1 carton heavy whipping cream (I used dairy-free)
    • 2 Tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
    • 3 Tbsp powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
    • 1 tsp salt (yes, salt—it balances the sweet!)

Instructions

  1. Make the Batter: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, salt, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth and blended.
  2. Dip the Bread: Slice your croissant sourdough into thick slices. Dip each piece into the batter, letting it soak for a few seconds on each side.
  3. Cook: In a nonstick pan or skillet over medium heat, melt a bit of butter (and a drizzle of honey if you’re feeling extra). Place the soaked bread slices in the pan and cook until golden brown on each side—about 2-3 minutes per side.
  4. Whip the Cream: In a cold mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, honey, powdered sugar, and salt until soft peaks form. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  5. Serve: Stack that golden toast, dollop generously with whipped cream, pile on berries (or toppings of your dreams), and drizzle with maple syrup if you’d like.
  6. Enjoy: Eat immediately while still warm and crisp on the edges.

Iski Note

Have fun with the toppings, and enjoy a slow and sweet morning if possible 🙂

Why this recipe hits

Because it makes you feel like you’re having brunch at a cozy café—but you’re in your PJs at home. It’s fancy-ish but made with what you’ve got. And if you’re using croissant sourdough, you deserve the world anyway.

Make it for someone you love—or just for yourself. French toast is self-care.
